Cast Birthday Party May 2009
With five cast members having
a birthday within a few days of each other, it was decided
to hold a joint birthday party. The party took place at the
Restaurante Casa Ventura, San Luis. With all members and friends
invited there were quite a number of people at the party.
Some members helped the evening along with a display of
their talents in singing, readings and comedy. As the
following photos show a great time was had by all.
Sea, sun, good food and good company all went together to make a great time
for the annual beach party. Members, together with family and
friends met at Feris beach, Torrevieja for a very casual and
informal evening, swimming, playing games and socializing.
The Gilbert & Sullivan society returned to
rehearsals after the summer break and had an extra special
reason to celebrate. By an extraordinary coincidence TWO
separate members of the society, John and Vivien, were
celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversaries. Couples, John &
Juliet Gardiner and Eric & Vivien Brumhead were married on the
15th August 1959.
Both couples have just returned from
visiting the UK where they celebrated their anniversaries with
family and friends at their respective Golf Clubs. The
celebrating continued with the raising of a glass or two after
the 1st rehearsal held on the 4th September and continued at a
Luncheon at Hoggies Bar.
After the Gondoliers was performed at the Casa de Cultura,
Guardamar on 24th – 26th March 2010. It
received wonderful applause from the audiences which totalled
well over 600. The show raised 2,500Euros for the Mayor of
Guardamar’s charity fund, and pushes the amount raised for
charity to over 42,500Euros. The show was an explosion of
colour, music and dance and started with a special treat of a
beautiful guitar solo and ended with the cast coming down among
the audience with a fiesta finale. The success of the show owes
a lot to the talents of the Musical Director, Cyril Willoughby,
the Accompanist Susan Brace Guest and the Stage Director, Trevor
King.
To celebrate the crew and cast after a few days to recover from
the rigours of performing gathered at El Vera's Restaurant in
San Luis, Torreveija for a well earned party. After a wonderful
meal, a few dinner speeches and more than a few drinks the
evening ended with dancing the night away. A wonderful way to
end the season before the work starts on the next production "Ruddigore".
As part of its
very active social scene the Gilbert & Sullivan Society in
Torrevieja (GASS) organized a day trip to Calpe in support of
Calpe Gilbert and Sullivan Society (CGSS) who were putting on
their first full stage production of one of Gilbert and
Sullivan’s entertaining comic, musical operettas. A coach
from the local firm popularly know as “David’s Coaches” took a
party of over 50 members and friends first to Moraira, for a
wonderful carvery lunch at Monroe’s, and then on to Calpe.
Everyone was able to spend time enjoying the delights of Calpe
before the coach took them to the Casa De Cultura for the
evening production of CGSS’s “The Pirates of Penzance”.
The members of
the Gilbert and Sullivan Society were very impressed with this,
the first production of a complete show by the CGSS. The scenery
and lighting effects were very well done and the costumes
bright, colourful and flamboyant. The principals’ singing was a
delight to listen to and was well supported by the chorus - a
performance that Calpe can be proud of. Members of the Gilbert
and Sullivan Society look forward to seeing their next
production, spring 2011 which will be “H.M.S. Pinafore”.
